Trading card shops and AI checkout: sell to real collectors, not bots

Card shops should welcome AI agents on everyday orders and put drops, sealed product and high-value singles behind a verified person. A one-account-per-face rule stops bot and agent farms from buying out a release, and authenticating singles from a photo catches fake cards on the way in and on the way back.

deepidv does not process payments. Your payment provider moves the money. deepidv proves who is on the other end: the agent, the person who authorized it, and whether they are allowed to buy.

Why card shops get hit first

Hyped sealed product can sell out in minutes or even seconds, and the tools that win those drops are sold openly. Checkout bots cost from about $80 a month to about $2,000 up front and advertise support for Shopify storefronts and queue logic. A newer class of AI browser tools reads the page and follows plain-English instructions, so it works on small hobby shops as well as big retailers. Since September 2026, browser agents can also check out on eligible Shopify stores through structured checkout tools, after the buyer confirms the order. Without a person check, your drop goes to whoever runs the most accounts.

One per person that actually works

Account limits fail because accounts are cheap. A limit on faces holds. deepidv verifies the buyer once with ID and a live face check and runs a 1:N match against every existing customer, so the same person cannot enter a drop twice under a new email. Phone and SIM checks add a second signal that farms struggle to fake at scale. Biometric dedupe is $0.30 per enrollment at list, and verified customers reuse their result on later drops.

High-value singles and slabs

Card fraud runs both ways: fake cards sold to you, and fakes returned in place of the real card you shipped. deepidv's TCG Authenticity Verification authenticates cards and graded slabs from a phone photo and gives a pre-grade estimate before submission. Use it at buylist intake and again on returns of high-value singles. For your most expensive cards, physical inspection stays the final word; the photo check tells you which cards need one. The Capture SDK reads a binder page or a stack from one photo for fast intake. Authentication is $0.10 per card at list.

Accepting AI agent orders the right way

Open agent checkout on everyday singles and supplies, and put sealed drops, preorders and high-value singles behind a verified person. The table sets the rule for each product type.

Chargebacks after the market moves

When a card's price drops after a sale, some buyers dispute the charge. Keep the verification receipt and the authentication result with the order, plus the agent's mandate when an agent placed it. Together they show who bought, what they approved, and the condition of what you shipped.

Add verification to your Shopify store

The deepidv app for Shopify adds verification to your store without code. Choose when it runs: first orders, orders above a value you set, limited releases, age-restricted products, or agent orders your rules flag. Customers verify once with ID and a live face check, and their later orders, including those placed by their AI agent, reuse the result. Every check produces a signed receipt you keep with the order.

TCG Authenticity Verification is also available through the API for shops on other platforms.

  • One person, one account
  • Age checks without an ID upload
  • A receipt for every check

Frequently asked questions

How do I stop bots buying out my card drops?

Make drops open to verified collectors only and match each verified face against your existing customers, so one person holds one entry no matter how many accounts or agents they run.

Should my card shop accept orders from AI agents?

Yes, for everyday singles and supplies. Agents bring real collectors. Gate sealed drops, preorders and high-value singles behind a verified person.

Can I verify collectors without slowing down checkout?

Verify once, reuse it. A verified collector's later orders go through without a new check, including orders placed by their agent.

How do I check a card or slab is real before I buy it in?

Photograph it with TCG Authenticity Verification. It authenticates the card or slab from the image and estimates a grade, so you can price it and send flagged or very expensive cards for a physical inspection before you buy them in.

How do I stop return swaps on expensive singles?

Authenticate the card when it ships and again when it comes back, and only refund once the returned card passes and its grade estimate matches the one you recorded. For a slab, the cert and image must also match the grader's record.

Does this work on Shopify?

Yes. The deepidv app for Shopify adds verification to your store, and TCG authentication is available through the deepidv API for any platform.

Verify the person behind the orders that matter, and keep a record of every check.
