A buyer's guide for Shopify and ecommerce stores

The best AI payment APIs for Shopify and ecommerce stores in 2026

On Shopify, start with Agentic Storefronts and Shop Pay, because agent checkout is already built in. Off Shopify, choose a processor that supports the Universal Commerce Protocol or the Agentic Commerce Protocol, and accept Visa and Mastercard agent tokens. None of these APIs checks the person's ID and face, so add a verification layer for high-value, limited and restricted orders.

deepidv does not process payments. Your payment provider moves the money. deepidv proves who is on the other end: the agent, the person who authorized it, and whether they are allowed to buy.

The options

There is no single best AI payment API; the right one depends on your platform and your processor. Shopify stores start with Shopify's own stack, and everyone else chooses from the options below by processor, card mix and the AI surfaces they want to sell on.

deepidv does not sell payments and is not paid by any vendor on this page. Last reviewed October 2026; vendor features change often, so confirm with each vendor before you build.

  1. Shopify Agentic Storefronts and Shop Pay. Agent discovery and checkout for Shopify stores, managed from the admin, with UCP, Shopify's Catalog, Cart and Checkout MCP servers and WebMCP checkout underneath. Best for: any Shopify store. Brands on other platforms can use Shopify's Agentic Plan to reach AI channels without replatforming.
  2. Google UCP checkout with Google Pay. Checkout inside Google's AI Mode and Gemini through Merchant Center, paid with cards saved in Google Wallet. Best for: brands that want Google AI surfaces. Open to select merchants for products eligible in the US, Canada and Australia. Merchant Center onboarding is rolling out in the US first, with Canada and Australia to follow early in 2027.
  3. Stripe Agentic Commerce Suite and ACP. Checkout through ACP or UCP and shared payment tokens through Stripe. Best for: custom and headless stores already on Stripe.
  4. PayPal. Agent Ready, for Braintree merchants, takes agent payments through ACP in ChatGPT and UCP in Google AI Mode and Gemini, Store Sync lists your catalog in AI shopping channels (US physical goods for now), and PayPal agreed in October 2025 to pilot Mastercard's Agent Pay Acceptance Framework. Best for: stores where PayPal is a large share of checkout.
  5. Visa Intelligent Commerce and Trusted Agent Protocol. Agent recognition through signed requests and Visa's agent directory, plus agent credentials. Best for: card-accepting merchants that want to separate agents from bots.
  6. Mastercard Agent Pay. Agentic tokens scoped per agent and spending rule, with an agent indicator in the authorization. Best for: stores that accept Mastercard, including recurring orders.
  7. American Express ACE developer kit. Specs for card enablement, purchase intent and tokenized payment credentials for Amex cards, open to select developers; agent registration is still in development. Best for: premium and luxury stores with high Amex share.
  8. Nuvei. A planned protocol layer to accept ACP, AP2 and MCP agent payments through one integration. Nuvei targeted initial availability for the second half of 2026 and had not announced a launch as of October 2026. Best for: mid-market and enterprise merchants that want one integration.
  9. WooCommerce UCP and ACP plugins. New third-party plugins that implement UCP and ACP with Stripe handlers and request signatures. WooCommerce says ACP checkout through its official Stripe extension is rolling out to select US stores. Best for: WooCommerce stores.
  10. x402 and stablecoin rails. HTTP-native payments for agents and APIs, often used machine to machine, on the open standard Coinbase created and the x402 Foundation now stewards. Best for: API sellers and digital goods, not most physical retail.

How to protect yourself whichever API you choose

The protection is the same whichever API you choose: check the agent, keep the proof, and verify the person where the order carries risk.

  1. Accept signed agent requests and treat ones that claim a known agent without proof as bots.
  2. Keep the agent's mandate with every order.
  3. Set value thresholds above which a verified person is required.
  4. Run one-per-person by face, not by account, on limited products.
  5. Strip hidden text from product data that agents read.
  6. Keep a verification receipt with every gated order for disputes.

Add verification to your Shopify store

The deepidv app for Shopify adds verification to your store without code. Choose when it runs: first orders, orders above a value you set, limited releases, age-restricted products, or agent orders your rules flag. Customers verify once with ID and a live face check, and their later orders, including those placed by their AI agent, reuse the result. Every check produces a signed receipt you keep with the order.

  • ID and face verification
  • One person, one account
  • Age checks without an ID upload
  • A receipt for every check

Frequently asked questions

What is the best AI payment API for Shopify?

Shopify's own agentic commerce stack: Agentic Storefronts with Shop Pay. Eligible stores already accept agent checkout. Add verification for orders where the person matters.

What is the best AI payment API outside Shopify?

The one your processor supports. Stripe and PayPal support both ACP and UCP, Google offers UCP checkout through Merchant Center, and third-party plugins bring UCP and ACP to WooCommerce.

Do I need Visa's Trusted Agent Protocol or Mastercard Agent Pay?

Both are designed to work without changing your infrastructure, and a CDN such as Cloudflare can check the agent signatures for you. They help you recognize real agents and scoped credentials. Ask your processor which it supports.

Do AI payment APIs check who the customer is?

No. They prove the agent and what the person authorized, and card networks authenticate the cardholder for the card issuer. They do not check the person's ID and face, their age or whether one person controls many accounts.

How do I protect my store when accepting AI payments?

Accept only agent traffic that proves its identity, keep mandates, set value thresholds for a verified person, enforce one per person by face on limited products, and keep a receipt for disputes.

Is deepidv a payment API?

No. deepidv is a verification engine. It works alongside any payment API to verify the agent's human and their eligibility.

Verify the person behind the orders that matter, and keep a record of every check.
